Cycling in and around Burgh Haamstede

Burgh-Haamstede lies on the edge of the woods and dunes of the Kop van Schouwen, so you can ride straight from your holiday address into nature.

• Forest within reach: Boswachterij Westerschouwen starts just outside the village and is one of the finest nature reserves to cycle through.
• Hire a bike: on the Noordstraat and the Kerkstraat you will find several bike hire shops.
• Junctions and routes: the junction network of Schouwen-Duiveland links beach, dunes, forest and polders; below you will find a few cycling routes.
• By the water: via the Kop van Schouwen you ride to the Oosterschelde.
• Bike and beach: the dune crossings bring you and your bike quickly to the beach.

Burgh-Haamstede has 3 bike hire shops in the village, one of them a stone's throw from Slot Haamstede.

• Fietswereld Bouwman: on the Noordstraat in Haamstede, about 100 metres from the castle; you can also hire bikes online here.
• Stella Fietsverhuur: also on the Noordstraat, in the heart of the village.
• Jan de Jonge Fietsen: on the Kerkstraat in Burgh, near the Burghse schoole.
• Tip: for longer rides to Zierikzee or across the whole island, an e-bike is well worth it.
