Meeuwenduinen - Nature

The Meeuwenduinen form one of the most pristine and natural dune areas of Zeeland. Here you experience the power of wind, sand and sea in an impressive silence area.
- Silence and nature: A unique area with high dunes, quiet valleys and rare plants such as grass of Parnassus, centaury and marsh helleborine.
- Accessible only outside breeding season: To protect vulnerable birds, the area is only open from 15 July to 15 March.
- Top location for birdwatchers: In spring and autumn you’ll find waders, gulls, songbirds and sometimes even birds of prey.
- Panoramic views: From the dune tops you have sweeping views over the Natura 2000 area Kop van Schouwen.
Seasonal experience
- Spring: The area is closed so birds can breed undisturbed.
- Summer: Closed until mid-July, but from 15 July nature opens up with waving marram grasses and summer tranquillity.
- Autumn: Perfect time for walks through rugged dunes; migratory birds arrive in large numbers.
- Winter: Pure and serene – silence and wide-open views dominate the landscape.
