Playground & Gnome Trail Westerschouwen

At the entrance of Westerschouwen Forest in Burgh-Haamstede you’ll find a mix of nature, adventure, and childhood imagination: a natural playground and the Gnome Trail Westerschouwen.
Gnome Trail Westerschouwen – Searching for gnomes in the dune forest
In the fairy-tale-like forest of Westerschouwen, gnomes live... at least, that’s what we think!
- For children aged 3 to 7: This specially designed trail sparks the imagination and introduces young children to nature in a playful way.
- Activity booklet with seasonal tasks: Follow the gnome posts along an adventurous route through the forest. Along the way, complete fun and educational tasks together that change with the seasons.
- Look for gnome tracks: Keep your eyes open! You might spot a secret hut, a gnome door, or even a real gnome...
- Surprise at the end: After finishing the walk, children will receive a fun surprise at the reception desk of the Excursion Barn as a reward for their quest.
- Opening hours: The Gnome Trail can be accessed (with paid entry) during the opening hours of the Excursion Barn.
- Costs Gnome Trail: For a small fee, children get access, a gnome hat, a filled backpack with tasks, and a surprise. Adults can walk along free of charge.
Note: the trail is unpaved and narrow, and therefore not suitable for prams.
Natural Playground – Playing as it should be
Right in front of the Excursion Barn there’s a small, freely accessible natural playground – a lovely place where children can burn off energy.
- Playing in the green: No brightly coloured plastic equipment, but two small wooden play elements with a slide, balance beam, and climbing course – perfectly blending into the surroundings.
- Free and safe play: Toddlers and preschoolers (about 2 to 6 years) can play freely here, climbing, sliding, and enjoying the outdoors.
- Play as it should be: Muddy knees and sandy hands are part of the fun – pure and adventurous!
