Maritime MuZEEum Zeeland - Museum

What can you expect at the MuZEEum?
History: The museum is partly housed in the Lampsinshuis of 1641, built for merchant Cornelis Lampsins. The young Michiel de Ruyter worked as a rope maker for this trading house. The MuZEEum was founded in 2001 as successor to the Stedelijk Museum Vlissingen.
Displays: The permanent display on four floors covers the themes of water, work, glory and adventure. Three windows of the Canon of the Netherlands meet here: De Ruyter, the VOC and slavery. Highlights: Highlights of the MuZEEum are:- The portraits of Michiel de Ruyter and his wife Anna van Gelder by Ferdinand Bol.
- Thousands of VOC finds from the wrecks of the 't Vliegend Hert and the De Rooswijk.
- A pair of spectacles with lenses intact and a mustard pot still holding its spoon, from the Rooswijk.
