New Year's Day plunge 2025

On 1 January, the new year starts on Schouwen-Duiveland with a refreshing tradition: the New Year's Dip of Westerschouwen. This tradition, held annually since 1996, provides much entertainment on the beaches. For the 26th time, locals and tourists gather at the Westenschouwen stairs to take a chilly dip in the North Sea, near Burgh-Haamstede.

What can you expect?

Besides the exhilarating dive into the sea, there's much more on offer:

Musical Delight: Enjoy live music by the local band "Liever ier as tuus".
Traditional Treats: Warm up with a bowl of traditional pea soup.
Special Souvenirs: As a memento of this special day, the first 1,500 participants receive an iconic Unox ice cap.

Last year (2023), a whopping 1,300 hats were handed out, so make sure you're there on time this year to get your hands on one!
